By winning numerous top awards at Business Traveler’s esteemed Cellars in the Sky 2024 Awards, Korean Air has achieved unprecedented success in the world of fine wine. The airline reaffirmed its dedication to providing a superb in-flight wine selection by winning gold medals in both the business class red wine and business class sparkling wine categories. Korean Air also won three silver medals, including first class fortified/dessert wine, business class white wine, and overall business class cellar. This caps off an unbelievable year for the airline, also picking Airline of the Year, according to AirlineRatings.com.

Korean Air’s Honoured Wines

With its deep notes of black pepper, cinnamon, dark chocolate, and black currant, the airline’s Dandelion Vineyards Lionheart of the Barossa Shiraz 2021 won best business class red wine. This Barossa Valley Shiraz is a notable choice for travellers looking for depth and complexity in their in-flight experience because of its fruity finish and silky tannins.

Korean Air’s Charles Heidsieck Brut Millésimé 2013, a sophisticated champagne known for its exquisite blend of citrus, apricot, cherries, and nutty scents, won first place in the business class sparkling wine category. This vintage, which is highly recognised by sommeliers around the world, has a creamy texture that makes it ideal for a range of foods as well as an aperitif.

The airline also won silver medals for their outstanding performance. In the business class white wine category, the Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Premier Cru Montmains 2021 was recognised for its crisp minerality, fresh green herb aromas, and ability to combine well with light meals and shellfish. With its rich scents of honey, marmalade, and white flowers, Château Guiraud 2002, a well-known Sauternes from Bordeaux, won a silver medal in the first class fortified/dessert wine category. This makes it an excellent choice for both sweet ends and aperitifs.

Dedication to an Excellent Wine Programme

In addition to winning individual wine prizes, Korean Air placed second in the world for its carefully chosen wine selection and won a silver medal in the business class cellar category. This honour highlights the airline’s commitment to developing a high-end wine program that improves the in-flight meal experience. At the moment, Korean Air provides a wide selection of 53 wines in all cabin classes, with 20 of those wines reserved exclusively for first class passengers.

The airline’s focus on changing dietary choices is a noteworthy feature of its wine selection; two of its award-winning wines, Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Premier Cru Montmains 2021 and Charles Heidsieck Brut Millésimé 2013, are vegan-certified.

A Tradition of Greatness

The Cellars in the Sky Awards have established the international standard for airline wine selections since their launch in 1985. Leading international airlines submit their best wines for blind tasting by a panel of experts every year. In one of the most competitive years since the pre-pandemic era, 32 international airlines, including Delta Air Lines, All Nippon Airways, and Air France, competed for first place in the 2024 tournament.

The fact that Korean Air consistently receives these honours is indicative of its wider standing as a leader in the aviation sector. Korean Air, one of the top 20 airlines in the world, is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service, innovation, and satisfaction. The airline serves 116 destinations in 40 countries with a fleet of 161 modern aircraft, including Incheon International Aiport as its primary hub.

Improving the Experience of Passengers

One aspect of Korean Air’s commitment to improving the traveler experience is its award-winning wine program. The airline keeps distinguishing itself in the world of luxury air travel by carefully choosing wines that go well with in-flight meals and making sure that its selection is varied and of the highest calibre.

Korean Air has once again demonstrated that it is a true leader in in-flight meal and beverage quality with numerous gold and silver medals from the Cellars in the Sky 2024 Awards.
