Emirates to Hold Worldwide Open Days for New Crew

Emirates Airlines, the self-professed “world’s largest airline”, is looking for cabin crew from around the world to join its team. The role involves relocation to Dubai, the most populated city in the UAE, where the airline is based. Open days for the position are being held this month in the US, UK, France, Germany, Singapore and Morocco, to name but a few from a long list of locations.

What Emirates is looking for

Emirates employs more than 20,000 cabin crew from around 160 nationalities. Their diverse team reflects their extensive range of destinations, which include over 130 cities on six continents. For those looking to experience the world, a role at an international airline like Emirates could pose a tempting offer.

To be considered for cabin crew, applicants must be:

• Fluent in written and spoken English (additional languages are an advantage)
• A natural team player with a personality that shines
• At least 160cm tall and able to reach 212cm high
• Able to meet the UAE’s employment visa requirements

And must have:

• At least one year of hospitality or customer service experience
• A minimum of high school (Grade 12) education
• No visible tattoos while in Emirates cabin crew uniform

However, if you’ve got tattoos and still want to work in the air, maybe consider Virgin Atlantic, which recently became the first UK airline to accept a cabin crew with visible tattoos.

Perks of Living in Dubai

Those who are successful in their applications will be flown to Dubai for training, where they will also stay for the duration of their employment. Whilst moving away from home has its obvious drawbacks, Dubai has a lot of perks that make the prospect much more appealing.

Firstly, Emirates will pay for your accommodation, including utilities like water and electricity. The airline has more than 50 buildings in different locations around the city for crew to live in. There are some caveats, though: you have to share the apartment with one or two colleagues of the same gender, and there are no visitors allowed past 1 am, with the exception of other Emirates crew.

Another incentive to move to Dubai is that your salary is tax-free. That means all the money you earn goes straight into your pocket. Basic Salary for cabin crew is AED 4,260 per month, with an extra AED 61.25 for every hour you’re in the sky. Pay will depend on flight hours, but on average, cabin crew earn just over £2,000 a month, plus layover expenses.
