BREAKING – 737-800 Crash in Tengxian Mountain Range in China

A China Eastern Airlines flight has crashed in Tengxian, Guangxi, according to multiple sources, yet unconfirmed

Guangxi Emergency Management Department has reported that the plane, carrying 133 passengers, crashed in Teng Country, Wuzhou, Guangxi earlier today, according to CCTV news. Rescue teams have been dispatched, but casualties are currently unknown.

Flight MU5735 was en route from Kunming to Guangzhou. when the accident happened. According to Flightradar24.com, the Boeing 737-89P quickly lost altitude at around 06:20AM UTC, dropping from 30,000ft.

Footage is currently circulating twitter showing smoke billowing from the Chinese mountains. Travel Radar is yet unable to confirm these videos as legitimate, so viewer discretion is advised.

About China Eastern Airlines

China Eastern are the second largest carrier by numbers in China, following China Southern Airlines. The Airline was established in 1988 and became the first airline to offer its shares on the international market. The Chinese government holds a majority stake in China Eastern, at 61.64%.

The airline mainly covers routes in Asia, North America and Australia, appealing to a domestic audience. In 2011, the airline became the 14th member of the Skyteam Alliance, joining the likes of Delta, KLM, and Aeroflot, who have recently gained controversy due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The airline’s fleet includes a range of aircraft including over 100 737-800s and 30 of the smaller 737-700s.

The aircraft involved in the accident is a Boeing 737-800 registration B-1791.

The Boeing 737 Next Generation, commonly abbreviated as 737NG, or 737 Next Gen, is a narrow-body aircraft powered by two jet engines and produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Launched in 1993 as the third generation derivative of the Boeing 737, it has been produced since 1997 and was an upgrade of the 737 Classic (−300/-400/-500) series aircraft. The 737NG remains one of the most popular commercial aircraft in service today.
