After a plane came off the runway yesterday, flights at Jersey airport were temporarily put on hold.

Four Passengers, none injured.

The aircraft was carrying four passengers when it flew into the airport yesterday afternoon. whilst landing, it ran off the western end of the runway and was caught by the arrestor bed. Jersey Airport have reported that none of the passengers were injured however flights were suspended for about two hours.

The aircraft that crashed is a Piper PA-28R-200, a four-seater light prop plane, which according to FlightRadar24.com, has a private owner. It was inbound from Albert-Picardie Airport in northern France and overshot the runway at 2:17 pm.

Challenging conditions at Jersey Airport

Weather conditions at the Channel Island airport were foggy yesterday, making things challenging for pilots using the runway. easyJet rescheduled their Jersey services on account of the fog, and the Airport Twitter page reports that British Airways (BA) flights from Heathrow were also disrupted. However, this could have been in part because of the technical difficulties BA have been facing at their London base.

Operations on the airport’s sole runway were put on hold for two hours whilst the bedded light aircraft was towed out of the gravel. However, even after the plane had been removed and the runway reopened, customers at the airport still faced flight cancellations and “severe disruptions” due to the fog. Ports of Jersey have said:

“A full investigation will be conducted, which will include the input and involvement from the AAIB.

“Until that initial investigation is conducted it is not appropriate for Ports of Jersey to comment further.”

The AAIB is the Air Accidents Investigation Branch, which investigates civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents in the UK and its territories.
