The vision for Jewar International Airport in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh has been firmly outlined as India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in a symbolic ceremony on Thursday 26th November 2021, and the multi-runway airport should be operational by 2024. Furthermore, it will be able to accommodate air passenger traffic of up to 12 million per year after the first phase of the airport has been built, with capacity increasing up to 70 million passengers by completion of the fourth phase.

Soon To Be The Largest Airport In Asia

It has also been confirmed that Jewar International Airport will be the largest in Asia, covering an area of 1,300 hectares in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district. Indeed, the airport will be located just 72 km away from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, said, “This region has been put on the international map. A huge benefit will come to crores of people in the National Capital Region and West Uttar Pradesh. The new India of the 21st century is working on cutting edge technology projects. These are not just infrastructure projects, they transform the region and the lives of people”.

“The Noida International Airport will be the logistical gateway. With the speed at which the aviation sector is rising, Noida airport will play a major role in it. It will be important for repair and maintenance as well. There will be a 40-acre space for maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO) services,” the PM said. “Nearly Rs 15,000 crore is spent on maintenance, and this revenue is gained by other countries. The airport will change this”, Modi added.

All of the above will only serve to accelerate the market forecast for India’s domestic air passenger market to double in size by 2030.

What do you think? Is this an exciting development for India. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
