An Easyjet Airbus A319-100, registration G-EZBZ performing flight U2-2862 from Lamezia-Terme to Milan Malpensa (Italy), was in the initial climb out of Lamezia-Terme’s runway 28 when the aircraft flew through a flock of birds, the left-hand engine (CFM56) ingested a number of birds prompting the crew to stop the climb at 5000 feet, shut the engine down and return to Lamezia-Terme for a safe landing on runway 10 about 15 minutes after departure.

A replacement A319-100 registration OE-LQB reached Milan with a delay of 9.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Lamezia-Terme about 37 hours after landing back.
