American Airlines will expand its presence in Venezuela by launching a new route between Miami International Airport and Barcelona, Venezuela, starting Jan. 15, 2027, adding a third destination in the country. This new route will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays using Embraer 175 aircraft.
This launch is the airline’s first-ever service to Barcelona, located in the eastern Venezuelan state of Anzoátegui, an important commercial and industrial hub for the region.
The new route aims to support business links between eastern Venezuala and the United States, alongside providing passengers with onward connections to over 100 destinations across North America.
Stephen Neuman, Senior Vice President and Chief Government Affairs Officer at American Airlines said:
“American is proud of the robust service we’re providing to Venezuela and prouder still that we are the only U.S. airline serving Venezuela. The addition of Barcelona further strengthens our long-standing commitment to the country. This new flight to our Miami hub will also benefit customers with one-stop access to more than 100 destinations in North America. We are grateful to U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and both the U.S. and Venezuelan governments for their support in launching this new service.”
American Airlines became the first U.S. airline to restore service to Venezuela, earlier in 2026, after several years of absence.
Operations to Caracas were resumed, followed by services to Maracaibo, until frequencies to its Venezuelan network subsequently increased.
Once the Barcelona route launches, American Airlines will operate 24 weekly flights, including daily flights to Caracas and Maracaibo, and three weekly flights to Barcelona, all from Miami.
The service will be operated by the Embraer 175, featuring a premium cabin, Wi-Fi, and in-seat power, matching capacity to expected demand in the airline’s developing international markets.
Tickets for the new route went on sale on Oct. 19 through the airline’s website and mobile application.
The announcement highlights continued growth in air connectivity between the United States and Venezuela as airlines gradually rebuild networks and capacity across the region.
