The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended an extensive search for a missing medical transport jet. The Gulfstream G-100 was en route from Bermuda to Boston on Oct. 3, 2026, when it disappeared. A Coast Guard spokesperson confirmed that a debris field found during the search belonged to the missing aircraft, but the six people aboard remained missing.

The Flight Details

The Gulfstream G-100 was operated by a Canadian-based company called Latitude Air Ambulance, which provides medical transport for patients and loved ones across 120 countries. The all-Canadian crew of two pilots and two medical staff picked up a Bermudian patient and a relative. The flight departed from Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport around 11:40 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) on Friday and was scheduled to arrive at Boston Logan International Airport at 1:30 a.m. ET.

The plane had been en route for 1 hour and 45 minutes before all contact ceased, according to FlightAware data. The aircraft lost significant altitude, plummeting from 24,000 feet to 11,000 feet before communications were lost. Radio communication with the air traffic control (ATC) indicated that the crew had been facing significant problems before the Gulfstream G-100 became unreachable. The ATC later confirmed that the crew declared an emergency. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a search-and-rescue alert at around 1:20 a.m.

The Search-and-Rescue Operation

The U.S. Coast Guard’s Northeast District has launched a search-and-rescue operation off the coast of Nantucket Island in Massachusetts. The coordinated response team involved several air and sea resources including HC-144 Ocean Sentry and HC-130 Hercules airplanes, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat, and the Sentinel-class fast response cutter, FRC William Sparling.

The Coast Guard and partner agencies coordinated the search over 4,445 square miles for 48 hours. The search led to the discovery of debris, confirmed to belong to the missing aircraft nearby. The Coast Guard suspended the search for the missing aircraft and the six people aboard the plane on the evening of Oct. 4, 2026.

Official Statements

Bermuda’s government confirmed it had been in contact with the families and thanked the rescue efforts. Premier David Burt said:

“We are praying that all six people will be found safe, and we thank the search and rescue crews for their continuing efforts.”

Steve MacKinnon, Canada’s Transportation Minister, expressed the same sentiment in a social media post on X:

“My thoughts are with all those on board, as well as their families, loved ones, and colleagues, during this extremely difficult time. We are closely following the situation and working with the relevant authorities as search and rescue operations continue.”

Latitude Air Ambulance released a statement that all six passengers and crew of the aircraft are presumed to be dead.

“Given the information shared by authorities and the conclusion of the search-and-rescue phase, we must now face the heartbreaking reality that the four members of our Latitude team, our patient and the patient’s family escort, who were aboard Heartbeat 104, are presumed to have died,” the air transport company said in a statement to Reuters.

Officials had not released the names of the six on board the missing Gulfstream G-100.
