An Airbus A320 operated by Yemenia Airways has sustained severe damage after encountering a heavy hailstorm during a flight from Yemen to Jordan. The incident occurred on Mon 26 Oct, while the aircraft was travelling from Aden International Airport (ADE) to Queen Alia International Airport (AMM).

What happened?
During a flight to Jordan, a Yemenia Airways Airbus A230 sustained damage earlier this week, when the aircraft suffered damage to its nose section and cockpit windshield after being struck by hail during the flight.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, the pilots managed to land safely at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman. Yemenia Airways spokesperson Hatem Al-Shaabi confirmed that the aircraft had landed safely and stated that it would undergo maintenance in Amman. A replacement aircraft was arranged for passengers scheduled to travel from Amman to Aden.

What damage was done?
Images show that the cockpit windshield sustained damage from the impact of the hailstones, while visible damage can also be seen on the nose of the Airbus A320. According to Yemeni media reports, no injuries have been reported among passengers or crew members, despite how dangerous the situation was.
The incident highlights the risks severe thunderstorms pose to commercial aircraft, particularly when flying through areas of intense weather.
