Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that could see Donald Trump’s name placed on a major travel hub: Palm Beach International Airport. The move, announced on Monday, March 30, is the latest step in a broader effort to attach Trump’s name to public spaces and institutions.

A Florida airport set for a new name

Under the new bill, the airport would be renamed “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.” The change is expected to take effect in July, but only after approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Located near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, the airport is a key gateway to South Florida, serving millions of passengers each year.

Florida lawmakers approved the proposal earlier this year, and Trump’s business also filed a trademark application in February linked to the new airport name.

There are even proposals to change the airport’s code from PBI to DJT, reflecting Trump’s initials, though that would require additional federal approval.

Part of a wider push to shape a legacy

The airport renaming is not happening in isolation. Across the United States, Trump’s name has recently been attached to roads, institutions, currency and planned projects, including a presidential library in Miami.

If approved, the airport would join a small group of U.S. airports named after presidents, but it would be one of the few to carry the name of a living one.
