WestJet is making waves in transatlantic travel by launching its first-ever non-stop route between Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN). The new seasonal route is set to take off on June 27, 2025, with four weekly flights throughout the summer.

Connecting Atlantic Canada to the Mediterranean

As part of WestJet’s largest transatlantic expansion, the Halifax-Barcelona service will directly link Atlantic Canadians to one of Europe’s most iconic cities. Flights will operate through September 28, providing easy access to the city’s stunning architecture and Mediterranean charm.

John Weatherill, Executive Vice-President, and Chief Commercial Officer at WestJet, noted:

“This route is poised to become a favourite among those eager to explore Spain and beyond. Service between Halifax and Barcelona complements our expansive and most significant transatlantic schedule from Atlantic Canada. As demand for travel to Europe remains strong, this addition furthers WestJet’s presence in the market, offering more choice and flexibility for Canadians living on the East Coast.”

A Milestone for Halifax

The new route marks the first direct connection between Halifax and Spain.

Marie Manning, Vice President of Business Development and Chief Commercial Officer at Halifax International Airport Authority, praised the launch, saying:

“This not only opens a gateway to one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations but also invites new visitors to explore Atlantic Canada’s natural beauty and cultural richness.”

With this addition, WestJet now offers six European destinations from Halifax for summer 2025, including Amsterdam, Paris, London, Dublin, and Edinburgh.
