Calgary’s 100th Route Makes Brazil Closer than Ever

WestJet’s latest route, flying from the airline’s hub at Calgary International Airport (YYC) to São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) marks a milestone for the airline as its 100th route to operate from Calgary. From Autumn 2026, the route will operate three times weekly between Calgary and São Paulo.

Alexis von Hoensbroech, CEO of WestJet Group, celebrated the arrival of the airline’s 100th route with the following statement:

“Our first flight between Western Canada and South America is the beginning of an exciting chapter in WestJet’s Calgary story. From our very first flight in 1996 to 100 non-stop destinations on four continents, this city has stood alongside us every step of the way. We’re deeply grateful to our Calgary partners and the millions of guests who have trusted us over the years; this support has made the road from one to 100 possible and we are proud to further strengthen Calgary’s position as the best connected mid-sized city in North America!”

Brazil’s largest airport will serve WestJet customers wanting to experience not only the culture and breathtaking views of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, but other destinations across Latin America such as Lima, Santiago and many more. The new route will mutually benefit businesses in both North and South America, with Canada’s Calgary International Airport now more closely linked to the economic centre of South America, giving expanding markets more room to grow.

Cross-continental Connections

The new service between Calgary and São Paulo will be operated with WestJet‘s Boeing 787-9 (Dreamliner) three times a week, with tickets now available for travel in Autumn 2026. The provisional route information, pending government approval, is as follows:

  • YYC – GRU: three times per week, departing 22:45 and arriving 15:35+1. Flights begin 8 November 2026.
  • GRU – YYC: three times per week, departing 19:40 and arriving 05:15+1. Flights begin 9 November 2026.

Marcelo Freixo, President of Visit Brasil, said the following on the introduction of the new route linking the two Americas:

“WestJet’s debut in Brazil represents another concrete step in strengthening our connection with the world. This strategic expansion allows more Canadians to access a Brazil of authentic experiences, exuberant nature, and a culture and diversity unlike anywhere else. Brazil has a vibe that cannot be explained, it must be felt. We invite all Canadians to discover that there truly is no place like Brazil.”
