Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is celebrating flying 100,000 passengers in a single day, not just once, but four times so far during 2025. This impressive milestone marks the highest daily volume of passengers for the airline since November 2019.

A Reflection of Wider Recovery?

The return to pre-pandemic passenger numbers is a promising sign of recovery for the airline and for travel generally, both in Scandinavia and beyond.

Erik Westman, Chief Revenue Officer at SAS said:

This milestone is more than numbers — it shows that passengers value reliability, service, and our commitment to leading the transformation of our industry to reduce its climate impact. We’re proud to be part of our passengers’ journeys, and as we head into a busy summer season, we continue to invest in the future of aviation — with modern aircraft, smarter operations, and a clear focus on sustainability and efficiency.”

The airline, ranked the best in the world for on-time performance,  recently added new routes and increased seat availability. New routes include Seoul, Seattle and Beirut flying from Copenhagen and Stockholm, and New York departing from Oslo. Seat capacity has also increased by 2.2 million compared to 2024, rising to 23 million.

Reducing Climate Impact

Another key priority for SAS is reducing its climate impact.

Its goals include achieving 25% lower CO2 emissions compared with 2005 by this year, while it aims to be carbon neutral by 2050.

The airline has also introduced plastic free packaging on its flights departing from Copenhagen, Oslo, Arlanda and Gothenburg, demonstrating its commitment to reducing 37 tonnes of single-use plastics per year.
