Overview

When people think about flying into a big city, they generally think about having to fly into a big airport, having to navigate to the city, and trying to find transportation can be a nightmare! Well, fear no more! Porter Airlines has what you are looking for!

Summary

Porter Airlines is a small Canadian Airline based out of Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport. Porter offers daily flights to destinations across Eastern Canada and United States, on their comfortable Q400 aircraft. This past October, I flew with Porter for my second time from my hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick to Toronto, Ontario (Via Ottawa).

Beginning where all air trips begin, the airport! My hometown of Saint John has a relatively small airport, about 10-20 daily flights. Porter only recently started service to the airport and they operate flights to two destinations, Toronto and Ottawa. Porter is the only airline that offers nonstop service to Ottawa from Saint John, and they also offer the only service to Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport, only minutes from Downtown Toronto! The airport recently underwent extensive interior renovations, and now has a very modern look on the inside. The airport boasts a bistro, offering several food selections such as sandwiches and wraps, and also salads. The bistro also has an attached fully stocked bar with various drink selections. The food is very good, and is a very welcomed place to sit back, relax, and enjoy a food and drink before your flight! Only downside to this is that the restaurant is pre-security, so any drink you purchase cannot be taken with you.

Post-security offers a small duty-free store where you can purchase small souvenirs and snacks. The departure area is fairly comfortable, and offers lots of seating to accommodate all the passengers of any departing aircraft. There are also outlets to charge your device.

The aircraft I flew on was a 7 year old Bombardier Q400. The aircraft was very clean, and the seats were very comfortable. Porter does not offer in-flight entertainment, however they do offer a selection of magazines and reading material. Porter has a very good in-flight service, offering a selection of soda’s, alcohol, plus tea and coffee. Porter also offers a selection of snacks such as chips, cookies and nuts. Best of all, snacks and drinks are free!

The flight was extremely smooth, and offered very nice views of the Canadian countryside. The crew was very nice. They even gave me a refill of my drink, which not everyone got!

Porter

Porter has one advantage over any other airline, they are only one of two airlines that fly into Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport. Plus, Billy Bishop is their only hub. Most, if not all of their flights are routed through Billy Bishop. Porter also operates flights to and from Stephenville, Newfoundland from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Porter also flies to destinations such as Newark Airport, near New York City, Mrytle Beach, and Chicago.

In my personal opinion, Porter is one of the best regional airlines in Canada. They offer very good service and have a very good selection of destinations! I would be happy to fly with them anytime!
