Virgin Australia has announced that it will refund more than 60,000 of its customers, having confirmed that tickets were previously priced incorrectly. This error, dated back to the 21st April 2020, means that each affected passenger will receive $55 in compensation.

The Process of Notifying Passengers of this Error

Virgin Australia has implemented what’s known as its ‘Itinerary Change Claim Programme’, where it will process refunds for 61,000 passengers. With the support of Deloitte Australia specialists, Virgin Australia will ensure that refunds are processed for all customers.

They will also be offering advice as to how passengers can receive their refunds for the error, which has originally been blamed on its pricing systems. The refund can be received either as money, credit or points towards their next flight.

A spokesperson for Virgin Australia had this to say regarding the refunds:

At Virgin Australia, we have policies that determine when and how we reprice a guest’s booking when they make a change to their itinerary. Some bookings were repriced in a way that does not align with our policy and we are refunding all impacted guests for that amount.

Lighter News Regarding Virgin Australia

Although Virgin Australia has had a setback in terms of their inaccurate pricing, they have made their first profit in 11 years.

In their financial year ending in June 2024, they made a net profit of $545.4 million, which is more than triple the profit which they made the year previously.

Virgin Australia will also be offering Velocity members more in terms of business upgrades and an advance seat selection on its long-haul flights.
