Korean Air, working together with Delta Air Lines, announced that a remote bag check would be available for passengers on flights bound for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport(ATL) from the Incheon International Airport, in the hope of ensuring a seamless travel process.

Remote Bag Check: Collaboration to Boost Seamless Travel

As part of a joint venture, Korean Air and Delta Airlines announced a new International Remote Baggage Screening (IRBS) on the flight from Incheon International Airport(ICN) to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport(ATL).

The implementation of this remote bag check means that passengers will not need to pick up their bags for rechecking at Atlanta Airport to have them scanned again when they transfer through Atlanta. Instead, the bag scan X-Ray image is shared directly with the US Border Security with the new system, where passengers can seamlessly connect to their next flight.

Kwangho Ko, Senior Vice President at Korean Air, mentioned this as an act to level up the airline’s service:

“Together with Delta and our partners, we are introducing new initiatives to deliver a seamless passenger experience. We will continue to deploy services to maximise convenience and comfort for our customers.”

This would ensure seamless travel and shorter wait times as they need not queue for baggage recheck at customs. The IRBS is meant to benefit around 300,000 passengers who go through this route every year, while more than half go through the Atlanta airport for their onward flights.

Jeff Moomaw, Delta’s Vice President for APAC said:

“Through our joint venture with Korean Air, we’re committed to making transpacific travel easier and more enjoyable. This is only the beginning—we aim to bring these benefits to more U.S. destinations from ICN.”
