About the integration

ITA Airways, Italy’s flagship carrier, started an integration process with Lufthansa Group earlier this year. Now, it has announced another big step in joining Star Alliance.

The airline is expected to add 360 daily flights to the alliance network. This move is expected to enhance the network’s connectivity within Europe, in particular Rome and Milan, the airlines’ home cities.

After the integration, the alliance members will reach 26, meaning the network will offer 18,000 flights across 192 countries.

Star Alliance Chief Executive Officer Theo Panagiotoulias said:

“As a gateway for Italy, its addition strengthens our global network, offering seamless and connected journeys to more travellers worldwide.”

ITA Airways CEO and General Manager Joerg Eberhart said:

“We are excited to join the Star Alliance network and to bring the excellence of Made in Italy into the alliance, further enhancing its global reach. This is a significant milestone in ITA Airways’ growth, and we look forward to offering our customers the future privileges of the world’s largest airline network.”

Echoing these sentiments, Lufthansa Group Chief Commercial Officer Dieter Vranckx said:

“I am proud that ITA Airways will become the fifth hub airline of the Lufthansa Group to join Star Alliance. ITA Airways’ future membership will provide Star Alliance customers with many new opportunities for personalised travel planning.”
