Japan Airlines and IndiGo airlines earlier in the summer had issued a press release on the news that the two airlines will come together and have codeshare partnership. The airlines look to enhance connectivity and more travel between the two countries which will increase the tourism as well as the culture knowledge between different passengers. IndiGo airlines, one of the biggest budget airlines of India with over 55% of the market share which operates domestically as well as internationally recently partnered with Japan’s flagship airline Japan Airlines, the Japanese airline is known for its high sustainability and premium comfort travel for customers.

What the partnership is about?

Currently, Japan airlines operates within India three times a week. This is from Delhi and Bangalore which go straight to Tokyo Haneda and Narita. This codeshare partnership looks to increase travel between the two countries which will enhance the flights from India to Japan making it a gateway for flights to stopover and have connecting flights from the country. The partnerships aims to begin next month and customers can expect to see a significant increase in flights to both countries making it more appealing for the coming holidays. Recently, IndiGo airlines has been making partnerships with different airlines and these being different codeshare agreements. The most recent one being with Malaysian Airlines.

What the partnership signifies?

With the world changing and times changing as well, it’s no new news that companies are looking to expand, merge and connect with other airlines to come together for a competitive advantage as well as a edge over other airlines by getting more resources. The partnership between IndiGo airlines and Japan airlines signifies this. Two great airlines partnering with each other to increase connectivity with each other. Abhijit Das Gupta, Senior Vice President Network Planning & Revenue Management of IndiGo airlines had a few words to share about the partnership:

We are pleased to expand our portfolio of codeshare partnerships with this agreement with Japan Airlines. Japan has been increasing in popularity amongst Indian travellers, as both countries are working to strengthen bilateral relationships and ease the visa norms. This phase of the partnership expands the choices available to Japan Airlines customers for journeys to/from Japan, using IndiGo’s extensive network in India

The partnership looks to be a great investment into both the airlines and countries, this is due to the increase in tourist activities which both countries would be able to do once the partnership starts as well as career changes. Let us know below what are your thoughts about this partnership.
