The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad has been awarded the Best Regional Airport in India & Central Asia for 2021 by Skytrax World Airport Awards. Moreover, the Airport has seen its world ranking move from 71st to 64th place in the world’s Top 100 Airport League.

Further accolades for the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport were also prevalent in the following categories:

  • Third Cleanest Airport in India & Central Asia
  • Fourth Best Airport for Staffing in India & Central Asia
  • Sixth Best Airport in the Asia Regional Airports category

The CEO of GHIAL (GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd), Pradeep Panicker, indicates that the relentless recent success of the airport is an additional source for motivation to keep improving the airport’s infrastructure henceforth. He said, “We believe that our innovative and tech-enabled initiatives during the pandemic and crisis preparedness have led to this achievement. This recognition motivates us to raise the bar further and reinforce our commitment to provide a safe and seamless experience to all our passengers.”

GMR Success Extends To Other Mainstream Indian Airports

GMR, who also own Delhi International Airport, has witnessed other awards. The airport was awarded the number one position on the podium for the Best Airport in India & Central Asia at the 2021 Skytrax World Airport Awards. Consequently, they have retained the award for the third year running. Delhi International Airport has risen up the World Airport League rankings as a knock-on effect, currently standing at 45th place, having previously been ranked at 50.

The aforementioned awards are judged upon feedback from air travellers from over 100 countries, who complete the World Airport Survey questionnaires across hundreds of airports. The surveys are collected throughout a six-month period. The questions in the survey focus on many key performance indicators. These can include the quality of facilities, speediness during departure and arrival, security measures and how seamless the airport experience is for passengers.
