On Jan. 5, 2026, Hawaiian Airlines, part of the Alaska Air Group, announced an investment plan of more than $600M named ‘Kahu’ewai Hawai’i’. Spread over a period of five years, it plans to modernise infrastructure and guest experience and also outlines its commitment to the Hawaiian community.

Hawaiian Airlines’ Kahuʻewai Hawai‘i Investment Plan

The investment plan is a step towards technological advancement to ease the customer journey whilst taking measurable steps to give back to the Hawaiian community. The plan includes an updated app and website, providing efficient travel planning and self-service features.

In addition, airport infrastructure will be renovated with improved lobbies, gates and amenities at Honolulu, Līhu‘e, Kahului, Kona and Hilo.

The airline also plans to enhance the guest experience by upgrading its widebody Airbus A330 interiors with new seats, carpets, lighting, first-class suites, and a premium economy cabin. Guests will also have access to seamless entertainment with fast and free Starlink Wi-Fi.

Support for the Hawaiian community

The investment plan also outlines the aim to lower emissions while promoting regenerative tourism, culture and conservation. This will be achieved by expanding partnerships in education and workforce development initiatives through its Travel Pono program with new investments to preserve Hawaii’s natural resources and advance new technologies for a more sustainable future.

The initiatives will be achieved in partnership with business accelerator Mana Up. This will help local companies scale for the global market with retailers from food, fashion, beauty and home.

Diana Birkett Rakow, the CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, said:

Hawaiian Airlines is proud to call Hawai‘i home, to reflect the spirit of the islands, to take care of our local guests and welcome visitors, and support our communities. Our Kahu‘ewai Hawai‘i Investment Plan represents one of Hawaiian Airlines’ largest single investments in our infrastructure, products and services in Hawai‘i. It reflects our kuleana to our people and guests in the islands and reinforces our commitment to deliver safe and remarkable service that enables Hawai‘i and Hawaiian Airlines to thrive.”

The Hawaiian Airlines’ Kahuʻewai Hawai‘i Investment Plan is part of Alaska Air Group’s Alaska Accelerate strategic plan to deliver on the combined airline’s vision of connecting guests to the world with a remarkable travel experience.

It is also planned that Hawaiian Airlines will be the first to take deliveries of Hawai’i-made SAF later this year.
