Frontier Airlines announced that it will launch its first-ever service routes to South America starting in December 2026 and will add three nonstop routes from Orlando to Colombia. Currently, flights to Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena still require government approval.
Three Colombian Destinations
It is expected that daily flights from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to José María Córdova International Airport (MDE), serving Medellín, will start operations on Dec. 10. Then, on Dec. 14, a flight to El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá will be launched. The initial schedule of this route will operate six flights per week and will increase to one flight per day by March 6, 2027. Additionally, on Dec. 19, a weekly flight to Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) in Cartagena will be launched.
Currently, Frontier Airlines has listed all three destinations from Orlando on its Colombia booking page. All three routes remain subject to government approval.
A Milestone for Frontier Airlines
These routes mark Frontier Airlines’ first service to Colombia and South America. Tyri Squyres, vice president of public and consumer affairs at Frontier, said that this announcement is an important milestone for the company.
“This is an exciting day for Frontier and for travellers as we announce our first-ever service to South America,” Squyres said.
Frontier stated that there is strong unmet demand for low-cost travel between Orlando and Colombia. Lance Lyttle, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, said that the new routes will provide more options for passengers and strengthen the connection between Central Florida and Colombia.
The service levels of the three routes vary significantly: Medellín will have daily flights, Bogotá will initially have six flights per week, and Cartagena will initially operate flights once a week.
New Links Between Orlando and Colombia
Frontier plans to enter the Colombian market and further expand its presence in the region. For Orlando, this news adds three nonstop routes to major cities in Colombia, covering the country’s capital, Bogotá, the major city of Medellín, and the Caribbean destination of Cartagena.
The expansion plan is significant, but regulatory conditions remain important, as all three routes remain subject to government approval. If approved as planned, Medellín is scheduled to become Frontier’s first destination in South America.
