August 1st, 2025, turned out to be the busiest day for global air travel in 2025. According to Cirium’s data, 114,589 flights were scheduled to take off from airports around the world. On average, an aircraft departed every 0.75 seconds – almost 80 departures every minute.

The ongoing spring break is mainly the reason behind the increased air traffic during August. While the 1st of August was the busiest day for the aviation industry in 2025, in 2024, it was August 2nd.

According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the 10 busiest days in 2024 (USA) were:

  • July 7, 2024 – 3,013,622 travellers
  • June 23, 2024 – 2,996,495 travellers
  • July 18, 2024- 2,957,170 travellers

  • July 14, 2024- 2,929,467 travellers
  • July 25, 2024 – 2,924,478 travellers

Meanwhile, September 6th was the busiest day for UK air travel, and Christmas Day was the quietest. These days are generally affected by the holidays like Thanksgiving, New Year and Memorial Day, hence making them the busiest days.
