Bahrain has taken a significant step toward becoming a leader in advanced air mobility through a new partnership with Eve Air Mobility, a company backed by Embraer. The two parties signed a Framework Agreement during the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum 2025, marking the start of a collaborative effort to bring electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to the region.

Building the Infrastructure for Urban Air Mobility

Under the agreement, Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) and Eve will work together to prepare the country for next-generation air travel. The initiative includes developing vertiport infrastructure, testing regulatory frameworks in a sandbox environment, and creating training programs for a future aviation workforce. The goal is to launch commercial eVTOL operations in Bahrain by 2028, with regional routes planned for 2029.

Eve’s CEO, Johann Bordais, emphasized that this collaboration supports both Bahrain’s innovation goals and the company’s mission to provide clean, efficient mobility solutions. He highlighted that the partnership lays the groundwork for safe, quiet, and zero-emission urban flights that can transform how people move across the Middle East.

A Vision for Regional Connectivity and Sustainable Growth

Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, described the agreement as a milestone in establishing the nation as a hub for aviation innovation. The collaboration also ties into Bahrain’s long-term sustainability vision, aligning with broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote new technologies.

Eve is currently exploring premium shuttle and tourist routes across major regional cities, including Dubai, Riyadh, Doha, and Istanbul, designed to cut travel time and provide a distinctive passenger experience. The company’s eVTOL aircraft are being engineered for Middle Eastern conditions, with features like advanced window protection, adaptive climate control, and a Lift + Cruise design to withstand dust and heat.
