Etihad Airways has announced a strategic codeshare partnership with Taipei-based STARLUX Airlines. This move is set to reinforce customer access to Northeast Asia and strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a key transit hub that enhances travel options across all continents, a gateway between the East and the West. The initiative was unveiled at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) General Meeting in New Delhi.

New routes
Effective 7 September 2025, Etihad will launch Abu Dhabi-Taipei flights daily using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. This new route will be the crux of the codeshare partnership in enabling Etihad customers to connect smoothly to major East Asian hubs via Taipei. STARLUX passengers are to gain direct access to Etihad’s European network, including destinations like Barcelona and Prague through Abu Dhabi.

Aims and hopes
There are also joint marketing initiatives in Taiwan and a reciprocal frequent flyer programme by year-end. This is to allow Etihad Guest members to earn and redeem miles across both networks.
Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, said:
“This partnership with STARLUX Airlines opens new market opportunities in Northeast Asia, giving our customers access to Japan’s key business and leisure destinations through Taipei. STARLUX Airlines’ reputation for premium service aligns perfectly with our standards, and together we’re offering travellers more choice and convenience when connecting across three continents.”
Simon Liu, Chief Strategy Officer of STARLUX Airlines, said:
“Our partnership with Etihad Airways marks a significant milestone in STARLUX Airlines’ global expansion, laying the foundation for future European routes. As one of the Middle East’s leading carriers, Etihad is globally recognised for its innovation and premium service—values that strongly align with the STARLUX brand.”

Customer benefit
This partnership aims to offer single-ticket bookings, coordinated check-in, and automated baggage transfers for Etihad bookings. STARLUX passengers will benefit similarly in westward transport via Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport. The complimentary Abu Dhabi Stopover programme allows travellers to extend layovers as part of the codeshare partnership’s larger mission to centre Abu Dhabi as a global transit hub.
On the topic, the strategic network expansion corresponds with Etihad’s strong growth and increasing collaborations. Now serving over 90 destinations, Etihad hopes the initiative will cement them as a global gateway between three continents.
Codeshare flights, subject to regulatory approval, will soon be available for booking through Etihad’s website.
