Increased Flights to Madrid Strengthen Connectivity

Etihad will also increase flights to Air Europa’s Madrid hub starting in the summer of 2025 to boost trips between Abu Dhabi and Spain. This will strengthen connections between Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia, creating a more efficient network for transferring passengers and providing seamless travel information.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways, emphasised the significance of this collaboration:

“We are in discussions to establish a strategic partnership covering a range of activities, including deepening our codeshare and frequent flyer programme, enabling both airlines to expand into new frontiers, and a potential wet lease operation with an Air Europa aircraft between Madrid and Abu Dhabi. Any partnership will work towards benefiting customers of both airlines, underscoring our commitment to providing our valued customers with a seamless travel experience and access to a wider network, including Air Europa’s leading Latin America Network.”

Air Europa Expands Middle East and Asia Routes Through Etihad Airways Partnership

Richard Clark, General Manager of Air Europa, echoed the enthusiasm:

“We are very pleased to expand our partnership with Etihad Airways into a scenario that will be even more rewarding for our customers. By initiating our operations between Madrid-Barajas and Abu Dhabi, it will further extend our reach to the Middle East and Asia, opening up more possibilities to connect both regions to the Americas via Europe, while offering the highest standards of quality.”

Etihad and Air Europa currently maintain a bilateral codeshare agreement that allows members of their frequent flyer programme to earn and redeem miles on each other’s flights for global connectivity. However, the new partnership seeks to strengthen Air Europa’s presence in the Middle East and Asia.It uses Etihad’s Abu Dhabi hub to give its flyers more ways to connect operations and increase flights.

This expanded cooperation marks a significant step for both airlines in enhancing global coverage and improving the travel experience for their customers. As well, Etihad‘s network offers access to hundreds of destinations worldwide. For the last few years, Etihad has received a several award of global-class service, cargo product and loyalty programme.
