Alliance Air, through its recent announcements on X, has built significant excitement for the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj! With flights commencing UDAN from Jan. 10, 2025 onwards, passengers can fly from Kolkata to experience the world’s largest religious congregation with a festival-like ambience. It is a unique event that blends astronomy, spirituality and deep-rooted traditional beliefs from Hinduism.
The Maha Kumbh Mela
The Kumbh Mela is the world’s largest religious gathering, traditionally tied to Hindu mythology, and is celebrated every 12 years. This distinct event is held at four sacred Indian locations: Haridwar, Ujjain, Nashik, and Prayagraj. A variety of people attend the event, including saints, ascetics, spiritual seekers, devotees, and other pilgrims. They collectively perform rituals and holy dips in the rivers based on astrological predictions believed to be divine.
The Mela is associated with grand ceremonies involving processions of Akharas called ‘Peshwai’ featuring elephants, horses, and chariots. It also features dramatic rituals of ascetics such as Naga Sadhus during the sacred ‘Shahi Snaan’. The Mela will be held in Prayagraj from Jan. 13 to Feb. 26, providing attendees with a distinct confluence of devotion and cultural practices.
