Prior to a Porter Airlines flight’s takeoff, a child refused to sit down and fasten their seatbelt; this led to the service’s cancellation on Aug. 6. The flight PD444 from British Columbia to Toronto was forced to return to the terminal and delayed the travels of all passengers onboard.

The Situation
On the Porter Airlines flight PD444, a child, whose identity and family’s identity remain undisclosed, refused to buckle up their seatbelt and take a seat before takeoff. The service was taxiing towards the runway when the child refused to sit.
According to the airline, a flight attendant noticed the child standing up on their seat midway through the service’s taxiing and asked the infant to sit. Both the parents and the crew attempted to make the child sit; nonetheless, all the attempts were completely fruitless.
It would be incredibly unsafe for the child if the flight took off without them being secured and with their seatbelt on. Due to the dangerous condition, the crew opted to return to the terminal at Victoria International Airport (YYJ).

The Carrier’s Response
As the plane returned to the terminal, the crew decided the best measure was to remove the infant and the parents from the aircraft alongside their luggage. Additionally, because the flight was cancelled, all passengers onboard were forced to disembark.
Porter Airlines rescheduled the other travellers’ flights to the following day, having to accommodate them as best they could. The carrier was very apologetic but stands behind the decision, claiming it was the safest.
