Cathay Pacific will increase the number of flights between Hong Kong and Mainland China this summer. The Cathay Group plans to provide customers up to 300 weekly return flights to 20 Chinese destinations.

An increase in flights
Cathay has stated the need to “cater” to the rising two-way travel demand. Therefore, the airline has provided an enhanced summer schedule, providing close to 300 flights per week during the peak period.
In addition to bolstering Cathay’s direct services between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, these higher flight frequencies also meet the growing demand for two-way travel between the Chinese Mainland and the global market. Overall, the carrier hopes to offer its customers an efficient and flexible travel experience.
Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau said:
We are delighted to be expanding our flight schedule in the Chinese Mainland this summer with services to 20 passenger destinations and increased frequencies on many of our popular routes. With our unique position of having deep roots in Hong Kong, being proudly part of China, and connecting the world, we are committed to providing a seamless travel experience for our customers whether they are flying to, from, or via our home hub.

Chinese destinations
Cathay will focus on the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Yangtze River Delta regions, both of which are major national “strategic areas”. Additionally, the Group will continue to develop its flight schedules to ensure frequent, convenient travel to Beijing and Shanghai.
The carrier has also increased the number of flights to other key Chinese cities to meet leisure and business demands. These include:
- Beijing, for a total of 56 return flights per week.
- Shanghai, where Cathay will operate 67 weekly return flights.
- Zhengzhou, Ningbo, Haikou, and Chongqing will upgrade from four weekly flights to four daily flights each.
- Hangzhou will experience four flights per day, flights to Nanjing will increase to twice a day, flights to Wenzhou will happen 10 times a week, and Wuhan is set for 12 weekly flights.
The number of summer schedule flights is a 40% increase from Cathay’s 2024 summer period. The Cathay Group plans to expand its global network too, in order to solidify Hong Kong as a leading international aviation hub. The Group is adding 13 destinations to its radar this year, including Dallas, Urumqi (28 April), Rome, Munich, and Brussels.
