The Cathay Group announced their achievement of over 100,000 passengers on a single day during the year-end air travel peak in 2024. This marks a strong conclusion to the group’s 2-year recovery and opens up a new chapter for the group.
Strong recovery for Cathay Group as air travel booms in 2024
On 2 January 2025, the Cathaty Group announced a significant milestone of surpassing 100,000 passengers daily. The group first reached this milestone on 15 December, and for 8 days afterwards in total during the year-end travel peak. Ronald Lam, the CEO of Cathay Group, quoted 2024 as a year with “unprecedented progress and expansion” and a strong recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cathay Group: great potential to come
Surpassing the milestone by the end of 2024 marks a strong end to the group’s two-year recovery. A new chapter of immense potential awaits the group as 2025 begins.
The Hong Kong-based group is an Oneworld Alliance member. Its members include full-service airline Cathay Pacific, cargo business Cathay Cargo, low-cost airline HK Express, cargo carrier Air Hong Kong and other subsidiaries. The group has been serving since 1946. With a fleet of 231 in total, they are expecting 73 new passenger aircraft to join in the coming years (as of June 2024).
The group expects to reach 100% pre-pandemic flights from January 2025. This shows the group’s strong potential as it expands with the recently completed Three-Runway System at Hong Kong International Airport.
