Calgary Airports has revealed a refreshed brand identity that reflects its optimistic and deep connection to the Calgary region. The brand operates YYC Calgary International Airport and YBW Springbank Airport. The rebranded logo induces visual identity, tone and naming convention inspired by YYC’s operation, its employees and its guests.

New brand identity

Calgary Airports operates the YYC Calgary International Airport and YBW Springbank Airport. Its legal name, which is The Calgary Airport Authority, will remain the same; however, it will now be known as Calgary Airports. The company believes that Calgary Airports is a name that better reflects operations at both YYC and YBW, believing it’s a commitment to clarity and approachability. Chris Dinsdale, president and chief executive officer at Calgary Airports, said that Calgary Airports connects Calgary to a world of possibilities. He said:

“This brand evolution is about more than a new look – it’s about aligning our identity with the energy, ambition and authenticity that define our airports, our people and our region, Calgary Airports connects Calgary to a world of possibilities.”

Finding Inspiration

The new brand was shaped by the airport’s community and guests, and the entire process took a year. According to the airport, the result is a brand that feels familiar and refreshed, anchored by a modernised YYC logo with an upward slant that reflects the momentum and energy of the airport’s ambitious plans for the future and its current place in the aviation industry.

The brand platform also draws inspiration from Calgary’s civic brand called Blue Sky City, drawing upon themes of several possibilities, blue sky and warm welcomes. The company believes that the new visual identity introduces a warmer, more welcoming tone that reflects the authentic care and expertise of the people behind the scenes. It was inspired by everyday operations at YYC and Alberta’s landscape. Jocelyn Alexander, manager, digital, social and creative content at Calgary Airports, commented that:

“YYC is a unique and complex brand, one that many Calgarians have embraced to represent more than just our airport, but our entire city. We love sharing our call sign with Calgary and are excited to create a brand that will stand out as YYC Calgary Airport – a safe port, a critical connector, a new adventure, and the comfort of home.”

Key points to remember:

The legal name, The Calgary Airport Authority, remains unchanged. Calgary Airports should be used when referring to the organisation that manages and operates YYC Calgary Airport and YBW Springbank Airport; however, when referring to the airport, YYC Calgary Airport or YYC Calgary International Airport should be used, including YYC.
