THE LOFT by Brussels Airlines has won the prestigious Europe’s Leading Airline Lounge award at the World Travel Awards, which was hosted in Sardinia, Italy. It’s the 7th time in a row that the lounge has received this award; shortly after, it will close for an extensive renewal.

The World Travel Awards

The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry. This year marks the 32nd annual award show to take place, and the brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality.

THE LOFT opened its doors in 2014; it offered a seating capacity for up to 300 guests with its 1,240 square metres of total surface area. In the lounge’s first four years, it welcomed over 1,500 passengers daily.

Brussels Airlines teamed up with the Japanese luxury car brand, Lexus, in 2018 to create an inspiring space with the highest standards in hospitality. The lounge was enlarged by 800 square metres to welcome up to 500 guests, including an open space showing objects from the Lexus design awards, letting guests discover the brand’s luxury lifestyle.

The new lounge was an immediate success, as since 2019, THE LOFT by Brussels Airlines and Lexus has been crowned ‘Europe’s leading airline lounge’ every year since.

An Extensive Makeover

Yves Benaerts, the Lounge Manager at Brussels Airlines, has said:

“THE LOFT has put Brussels Airlines on the map as a premium carrier and a force to be reckoned with. This lounge has been recognized seven times as Europe’s Leading Airline Lounge because we never took the award for granted. Over the years, we have consistently worked to ensure that we remain at the top. Today, however, we have reached a moment where were ready to take the next step into offering the highest standards of Belgian hospitality: the time has come to say goodbye to THE LOFT in its current form and to create something entirely new from scratch.”

THE LOFT by Brussels Airlines will close its doors on January 1, 2026. The plans for the now 2,040-square-metre space will be fully reimagined to offer premium travellers an even more prestigious lounge in the future. The new lounge is expected to open its doors in late summer 2026.
