Nearly 2 million passengers are expected to fly with Brussels Airlines this July and August. With this, the airline is gearing up by boosting their capacity to cater to all of their passengers.

Extra Aircraft and New Staff
Brussels Airlines has significantly expanded its fleet compared to the previous summer period in 2024. It has added an extra Airbus 320 for short and medium-haul flights, and an Airbus 330 for its long-haul routes. On top of this, four more Airbus A220 aircraft will be deployed in their network via their wet-lease partner Air Baltic, bringing the total fleet number during summer 2025 to 50 which is six more than the previous year.
The airlines have developed a strategy to have the highest possibly capacity this summer, taking advantage of the seasonality within the aviation industry. In addition to this expanding capacity, the airline has hired 47 summer students who went through the same selection process and meticulous training to become cabin crew members for the airline. Brussels Airlines has already been deemed one of Belgium’s leading employers, with the aviation industry coming out as the most desirable sector to work in across Belgium.
Since January 1 2025, Brussels Airlines has hired 300 new employees. Most of them being cabin crew, however pilots and airport employees were also hired as the airline is growing and expanding.
Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Brussels Airlines, has thanked and acknowledged the work that the airline employees put in during busy summer periods, she said:
“While summer offers many a moment to pause and recharge, it’s also the season when our teams are at their busiest. Behind every smooth journey and holiday memory are colleagues who show up with dedication, care, and professionalism—day in and day out. I want to sincerely thank all Brussels Airlines employees for going the extra mile, ensuring our guests feel welcomed, safe, and valued every step of the way.”

Holiday Destinations
With everything prepped and ready for the summer holidays to kick-off, Brussels Airlines will be flying their passengers to their favourite destinations. Spain comes out on top for Belgian travellers who will be able to access more than 12 destinations within Spain through the airline, including, Barcelona, Malaga, Valencia, and Alicante. Also within Europe, Greece and Italy will too see a lot of Belgian travellers this summer, both with 9 destinations each.
For their long-haul routes, New York and Kinshasa are the most popular along the airline’s network.

Prepare For a Smooth Journey with Brussels Airlines
The airline has done everything to prepare for its busy summer period and make the journey as smooth for their passengers by increasing their fleet, hiring more staff, and even doubling its capacity for the bag drop area in departures at Brussels Airport so that passengers who check in online can have their luggage handled in “no-time.”
However, Brussels Airlines would also like to advise their passengers to:
- Arrive at the airport on time. Summer periods can be extremely busy therefore the airlines urges its passengers to give themselves enough time to get through the airport and find their gate.
- Check-in your hand luggage for free. This can create smoother boarding processes ensuring an on-time departure, but also gives the passengers many advantages such as no restrictions on liquids and carrying less bags through the airport.
- Stay informed about your flight. The airline says you can do this by downloading their app, but you can also check on your flight at the airport to ensure you know about your gate, or any delays/cancellations
- Check you have the right documents. Check the travel advice for the country you’re going to and don’t forget your passport! Making sure you have the correct documents lets you have a stress-free and smooth journey.
While Brussels Airlines has gone above and beyond for its customers this summers, the ongoing national strikes have had an impact on this outside of the airline’s control, so check your flight details regularly and follow their airline’s advice.
