It has been recently announced that Britten-Norman, a privately owned regional British aircraft design and manufacturer, has ensured a new investment provided by a group of investors of 4D Capital Partners LLP. 4D Capital Partners is a company based in the United States with a focus on venture capital, private equity, and commercial real estate investment.
Britten-Norman: Regional British Aircraft Design and Manufacturer
Established in 1954 in the Isle of Wight, Britten-Norman is a world-leading aircraft manufacturer, celebrating 70 years at Bembridge Airport in the UK this year. With a reputation for delivering aircraft sold to more than 120 countries worldwide, it specialises in turboprop STOL aircraft and twin-engine pistons. For curious aviation enthusiasts, Britten-Norman designed and manufactured the Islander aircraft- one of the top-selling commercial aircraft in Europe.
In 2023, Britten-Norman and Cranfield Aerospace Solutions announced their plan to create eco-friendly aircraft. Unfortunately, the project was delayed. However, with a strong collaboration between both companies, the plan to develop a hydrogen-electric version of the BN-2 Islander aircraft is again in the game to introduce sustainable air travel.
On the other hand, aiming to serve special missions, the company Britten-Norman designed “The Defender,”- a well-known aircraft that performs roles in counter-terrorism, reconnaissance, surveillance and maritime patrol, according to Britten-Norman. The British aircraft manufacturer is an exporting specialist, making up 97% of the 1300 manufactured aircraft.
The Business-Changing Investment
The trustworthy new investment made by 4D Capital Partners LLP marks a period of success and prominent goals, aiming to expand manufacturing services worldwide in productive quantities. The Agreement between parties consists of selling the company’s business and assets to ensure the company’s future growth. Additionally, as a part of the Agreement and according to Interparth Advisory, all 117 staff members of Britten-Norman Aerospace Limited will be transferred to the head office and manufacturing on the Isle of Wight, Design and engineering establishment in Southampton; the sales office located in London and the hangars in Lee-on-Solent.
The founder of 4D, Alex Silk, expressed his plans by positively stating:
“From the beginning, we saw the latent value in Britten-Norman. In addition to bringing working capital, our team will work closely with management to help the company work up production to meet the exciting demand for its amazing sought-after Islander aircraft”.
Chris Pole, MD at Interpath Advisory, expressed:
“We are proud to secure a future for the business and enable the management team to build on that heritage with fresh investment”
