Low-cost carrier, EasyJet, has announced today that consultations will be taking place to discuss staff reduction and base closures.

The cuts have been announced in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic and will include bases such as Stansted, Southend and Newcastle. EasyJet has said that these airports would remain a part of its route network. This comes shortly after British Airways threatened the dismissal of a number of their pilots.

Pilots union Balpa said EasyJet had informed them that up to 727 of its UK-based pilots were at risk of redundancy.
EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren said: “The lower demand environment means we need fewer aircraft and have less opportunity for work for our people.
We are committed to working constructively with our employee representatives across the network with the aim of minimising job losses as far as possible.”
