Birmingham Airport Confirms Capital Investment Across The Airport

Alongside their year-long investments across all fields in the airport, BHX announces a further £75million grant to improve facilities between now and 2029.

Major investments for retail, hospitality, terminals, and security and allowance measures have been confirmed by BHX. The airport will see a multi-million pound refurbishment to each of these sectors, including three new food and beverage outlets in departure lounges.

The airfield beyond the interior of the airport will see a £40 million turnaround, including taxiway reconstructions, lighting replacements, and runway works.

For passengers, a complete overhaul to security and baggage allowances will see a huge investment, making travel seamless. A further £40 million for self-service systems, baggage sortation and greater handling capabilities.

“We are currently in our most successful year ever at the airport and we are confident this growth is set to continue. We have already made significant investment in the airport this year, having delivered new departure gates, lounges on the international pier, additional security lanes, new retail offerings and baggage capacity to name only a few projects.” shares CEO of Birmingham Airport, Nick Barton.

Investment Masterplan and Sustainable Strategies Following A Successful Year

The investment masterplan follows a continuous growth and balances the grant made to refurbish and transform Birmingham Airport into the modern day. Passengers and colleagues will benefit from the rolling growth with improvement across heating and cooling systems.

Using sustainability strategies by replacing temperature systems with comprehensive, environmentally friendly ones means air quality is better controlled.

The replacement of current electrical operations to use power generated from a local solar farm, following its recent success at powering systems this summer, is underway, with the airport as part of its multi-million pound investment.

“Every year, millions of visitors first set foot in our region at Birmingham Airport. And it’s the workplace of thousands of our residents. Now the airport is backing the West Midlands even more with a £300 million investment. That means more passengers, more freight and more opportunities to link the region to the world. By strengthening these international routes, we make trade and travel easier, helping to drive economic growth across the West Midlands and the whole of the UK.” shares West Midlands Mayor, Richard Parker.

The airport is yet to confirm its chosen partner for the major investment and to share what the airport will look like by 2040.
