Biman Bangladesh Airlines

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the state-owned flag carrier. It was founded on Jan. 4, 1972, and operates as a public limited company, primarily based at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC).

It connects to over 20 domestic and international destinations, including long-haul routes to London and regional routes in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Biman has one of the youngest fleets in South Asia, using advanced aircraft like Boeing 787 Dreamliners, 777-300ERs, 737-800s, and Dash 8-400s.
This modernisation strategy of 14 new aircraft are part of a broader plan to increase the total fleet size to 47 aircraft by 2034-35, supporting Bangladesh’s ambition to become a regional aviation hub.

New Boeing Aircraft

On April 30, 2026, the airline officially signed a $3.7 billion deal with Boeing for 14 new aircraft.

The new aircraft are:

  • Eight B787-10 – will be used to serve high-demand routes to the Middle East.
  • Four B737-8s – will connect Bangladesh with destinations across the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia.
  • Two B787-9 – will support long-haul services to Europe and North America.

These add to the carrier’s fleet of: four B737-800s, four B777-300ERs, four B787-8s, two B787-9s, and five DHC-8-Q400s. They are intended for high-demand routes to the Middle East and will eventually replace the older Boeing 777-300ERs.

The first of these new aircraft is expected to arrive in November 2031, with the full order completed by October 2035. While Biman had previously explored a deal for up to 10 Airbus A350 aircraft in 2023, the airline ultimately decided to stick with an all-Boeing jet fleet to maintain operational continuity in pilot training and maintenance.
