The Baltic Cargo Center, an ancillary to the airline airBaltic, and the biggest cargo ground handling company at Riga International Airport has announced its performance results for 2024 as well as an expansion of its hub showcasing excellent growth for the company and airline.

2024 Performance Results

Over the last year, the company has not just maintained stable operations and revenue growth but also experienced significant strategic developments which resulted in a net profit of 64,000 euro. This is a result of the Baltic Cargo Center handling over 10 thousand tons of cargo and mail, and generating 1.16 million euro in operating revenue which was around a 10% year-on-year increase. Their significant 64,000 euro net profit was almost three times higher than the previous year.

The Baltic Cargo Center functions as a hub for airBaltic’s cargo operations and facilitates key connections for flights within the carrier’s network. In the past year, they reported a total of 21,000 flights carrying commercial cargo and airmail that had departed from or arrived at Riga International Airport aboard an airBaltic aircraft. The airline has been growing in other areas, not just the air cargo handling services which highlights the overall growth and development that airBaltic is experiencing.

Trustworthy Provider

The cargo handling centre has established itself as a stable and reliable provider of air cargo handling services since it’s foundation in 2001. Arvīds Maurāns, Chairman of the Board of the Baltic Cargo Center, stated:

Even under continued geopolitical pressures and shifting cargo logistics in the region, 2024 was a resilient and forward-looking year for us. We strengthened our core operations, maintained client trust, and laid the groundwork for future growth.

The airline airBaltic along with the Baltic Cargo Center have been making their way steadily to new heights with their achievements over the last year. From their tripled net profits in 2024, to growth with their training programmes, to now launching the largest air cargo handling centre in the Baltics.

Expansion To New Cargo Hub

The operation now runs from the new Baltic Cargo Hub at Riga International Airport. The new hub which spans 6895m², is designed to support the growing demand for air cargo services as well as efficiency at the airport. It is located directly at the cargo apron, and has been equipped with advanced handling systems and a semi-automatic sorting line. The facility has been designed to enable seamless and fast cargo processing. The terminal accommodates both general cargo as well as special cargo, with dedicated temperature-control rooms, areas for dangerous goods, live animal rooms, and any other valuable items.

The new cargo hub was built with sustainability in mind, therefore the building is BREEAM certified and ensures to meet sustainability objectives which has also included environmentally-friendly initiatives such as sustainably-sourced work clothes, waste sorting, and electric vehicles. You can find more about the construction and key features of the new space here.

With these significant investments to optimise infrastructure, innovation and service, the Baltic Cargo Center is equipped to effectively meet the growing demands as well as play an important role in re-enforcing airBaltic Group’s cargo ecosystem.
