Austrian Airlines has announced the launch of a new direct route between Vienna and Bergen, beginning June 1, 2026.

Direct Flights to the Nordic Fjords

The Vienna-Bergen service will operate three times a week until mid-September 2026, with flight times of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes across a 970 km journey — all while avoiding stopovers at airports in Copenhagen and Frankfurt.

Austrian Airlines’ choice of Bergen is no accident. The captivating fjords, towering mountains and beautiful landscape have appealed to Austrian travellers in recent years. A press release from Fjord Norway has revealed that in 2024, the number of overnight stays by Austrian visitors at hotels and campsites in Western Norway rose by 11%, demonstrating the eagerness to discover what the country has to offer for holidaymakers.

Bergen is nicknamed the “Gateway to the Fjords”, offers easy access to outdoor experiences for travellers:

  • Sea Kayaking on Hardangerfjord and Nærøyfjord
  • Whitewater rafting through the Raundal Valley
  • Rock climbing on Lønahorgi mountain and in Uskedalen
  • Hiking Trolltunga

An Expanding Network

The Vienna-Bergen route is a part of Austrian Airlines’ 2026 summer expansion, adding several destinations, increasing the airline’s total network to 133.

Flights to Norway will rise from nine to thirteen weekly services, strengthening links across Scandinavia whilst also branching out from the usual Mediterranean network. Catering to adventure lovers and thrill hunters, not just sun-seekers.

With less travel time, fewer connections and a wide range of opportunities for travellers, Bergen and the Fjords of Norway will undoubtedly host many Austrian travellers in summer 2026.
