In the aftermath of a catastrophic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, the world watches as officials scramble for answers and grieving families navigate unimaginable loss. The accident, which marks the first fatal incident involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has raised alarms about aviation safety and triggered an urgent investigation by Indian authorities.

Emergency Response & Support Lines Activated

British nationals impacted by the tragedy have been urged to seek immediate assistance, with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) rolling out emergency contact numbers. Those in India can reach consular support at +91 (11) 2419 2100, while UK-based individuals can call +44 (0) 20 7008 5000. Air India has also established a helpline for foreign nationals at +91 8062779200.

British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron, who personally visited the crash site and local hospitals, affirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting affected citizens, stating:

My team and I have visited the crash site and hospital in Ahmedabad. Colleagues in UK & India are working around the clock to gather information and support British nationals affected. Please consult our Travel Advice for updates and contact us on the 24/7 consular helpline.”

Investigation Launched Amid Nationwide Mourning

Indian Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu confirmed the initiation of a high-level inquiry into the tragic event.

We are ensuring every possible support to the affected families. A thorough investigation is underway, and all efforts are being made to uncover the cause of the incident.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who chaired a review meeting at Ahmedabad Airport, expressed his deepest condolences, calling the loss “beyond words.” His somber statement reflected the grief sweeping across India:

The loss of so many lives in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner is beyond words. Condolences to all the bereaved families.”
