Air Canada has announced a planned expansion of its global services with the addition of five new international destinations and new routes. The new schedules will commence from May 2027 and are part of the airline’s wider long-term growth strategy.

New routes

Air Canada is extending its reach to mainland China by adding a third destination, Guangzhou (CAN), in Guangdong province. From May 4 2027, it will be the only North American carrier to serve this city. Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights will operate year-round, from Vancouver (YVR).

The airline will also offer non-stop flights to Oslo (OSL) in Norway using its new Airbus A321XLR fleet, from June 2.

A new direct Airbus A321XLR flight between Toronto (YYZ) and Shannon (SNN) in the west of Ireland will operate from June 10. Alongside the airline’s existing Montreal (YUL) to Nice (NCE) route, from June 16, the airline will offer a further service to the French Riviera with direct Airbus A330-300 flights from YYZ.

Airbus A321XLR flights from Montréal (YUL) will fly direct to Basel-Mulhouse (BSL), the tri-national airport serving Switzerland, France and Germany, from June 16. Dubrovnik (DBV) in the Croatian Riviera will be served by direct Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights from YUL from May 11, 2027.

Schedule enhancements

Air Canada’s planned new direct Guatemala City (GUA) flights from December 2026 from YUL, will become year-round from summer 2027, along with those to Tenerife (TFS) and Lima (LIM). The airline also announced the return of the popular daytime service (known as the ‘daytripper’) connecting YYZ to London Heathrow (LHR) in seven-and-a-half hours. The airline’s existing YYZ to Shanghai (PVG) route will also increase frequency to a daily schedule.

Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer said:

“Summer 2027 marks the most extensive intercontinental expansion in Air Canada’s history, cementing our position as the second-largest North American carrier by global destinations served…each of our five new destinations and many schedule enhancements support commerce and tourism and create exciting new opportunities for people to explore the world.”

Air Canada also reports that their long-term growth strategy is expected to grow their Canadian GDP contribution by over $7 billion per year, whilst creating over 1,500 additional direct jobs by 2028.
