Emirates Auction and Emirates Airline Foundation have fundraised 8.8m AED ($2.4 USD) for increased humanitarian aid for children in the South Africa region and globally.

Where have the proceedings gone in South Africa?

The money that Emirates have raised have gone towards two different foundations within the nation:

  • Singakwenza Education and Health– this charity is supporting over 1,000 children to begin early education- especially in areas below the poverty line where access to education may not be available
  • Fikelela Children’s Centre- the organisation helps 40 children who have inherently or physically contracted HIV/AIDS and funds helping them get the treatment to survive and recover.

From these donations, it will allow the organisations to fund new projects, whilst continuing the support for children and communities across the country and beyond. Emirates also plan to help an additional 14 NGOs across nine countries in Africa.

What is Emirates official statement on the matter?

Chairman and President of Emirates Airlines and the Emirates Foundation stated:

When we brought this intitative to life in December, we were guided by a single objective to look at new, innovative ways to grow the foundation’s humanitarian work and impact. What made this intitative so compelling wasn’t just the exclusivity of the membership numbers, but the value and prestige that comes with Platinum status. Bidders recognised that, and they showed up. The response was extraordinary, and a testament for the generosity of our global community of Skyward members and bidders.
