Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) are set to launch their first international route in March 29 of this year. The route is to make flights accessible from Vietnam’s Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC), and to establish a direct link with Taipei’s Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). On January 5 the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) gave authorisation to the start-up airline to make the direct route a reality, with the first tickets expecting to be sold on January 21.

The Scheduled Route

The new international route is expected to begin service on March 29 with regular direct flights to Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport and Phu Quoc International Airport in Vietnam. Most direct routes between Taiwan to Vietnam are approximately 3.5 to 4 hours on a single flight, but Sun PhuQuoc Airways was granted its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), enabling it to operate international flights across Asia. Sun PhuQuoc Airways expect to run their existing fleet of nine aircraft – five of which being A321-200s – by February 2026 as part of the first quarter of its fiscal year.

International Expansion

Sun PhuQuoc Airways has been looking to expand its international fleet, with plans to add services to other territories across Asia including Hong Kong International (HKG), Kaohsiung International (KHH) and Busan Gimhae International (PUS). The airline, launched by Vietnamese travel agency the Sun Group have also teamed up with the Hongyi Travel Service (HYT) in Taiwan and Pacific Air Agency in South Korea by appointing them as General Sales Agents (GSA) to manage finances and provide international representation in parts of Asia.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ current “trunk routes” in Vietnam connect to domestic hubs like Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City, but will also be adding new domestic routes as part of their expansion, including direct flight paths from Da Nang (DAD), and Nha Trang Cam Ranh (CXR) on March 15.
