Eastern Airways In Danger Of Collapse Amidst Financial Strain

Eastern Airways, which operated regional services across the UK, has suspended all further operations, announced by the CAA.

The company filed a notice of intention to appoint an administrator on Oct. 27, temporarily halting any threatened creditor legal action against the airline after growing financial strain.

The airline will have a quick 10-day notice to reach a resolution and use any rescue plans to avoid the airline from collapsing and potential redundancies, placing many staff jobs at risk.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the airline’s financial struggle advanced with falling passenger numbers.

Passengers “Urged” Not To Travel To Airports As Flights Are Cancelled

Selina Chadha, Consumer & Markets Director at the UK Civil Aviation Authority has urged passengers, “planning to fly with this airline not to go to the airport as all Eastern Airways flights are cancelled.”

Customers are advised to find appropriate, alternative travel via railway, bus, coach, or other airlines.

Travel Support and Other Arrangements For Those Affected

Staff of Eastern Airways and passengers prepared to board cancelled flights have been offered alternative travel by London and North Eastern Railway (LNER), ScotRail, TransPennine Express (TPE), and Northern with free standard second-class tickets on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th. Eligible person must show valid employee ID, boarding pass, or flight confirmation to station staff.

Those who booked via debit and credit cards will be able to claim back through their card issuer.

Passengers who booked with Travel Insurance are advised to check their protection policies and contact their travel and ticket agents.

Eastern Airways’ notice of intention to appoint an administrator temporarily protects the airline from creditors for 10 days while a rescue plan is explored.
