There are major regional gaps in flight punctuality across the UK, according to recent data from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for Q2 2025. The data reveals a clear divide between high-performing regional airports and larger hubs still grappling with delays and disruptions.

Regional Airports Lead, While Larger Hubs Fall Behind

At the top of the list, Aberdeen Airport recorded the strongest performance, with 86% of flights arriving or departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled time in Q2 2025. Close behind were Liverpool and Belfast International (both at 82%), as well as the Isle of Man and Belfast City (81%). These results reflect the reliability of smaller, regional airports, many of which appear to benefit from lower traffic volumes and streamlined operations.

In contrast, Birmingham Airport ranked lowest, with just 67% of flights on time. Manchester and Bournemouth followed closely, each reporting 69% flight punctuality. These airports also experienced a high proportion of long delays and cancellations, suggesting operational inefficiencies and ongoing capacity challenges.

Long Delays and Cancellations Plague Lower-Performing Airports

The CAA report also broke down delays into time-based bands, from minor (16–30 minutes) to severe (over 180 minutes), including cancellations. Airports at the bottom of the ranking, such as Southampton, Stansted, and Jersey, recorded a greater share of flights delayed by more than two hours, as well as higher cancellation rates.

While most airports saw the bulk of their delays fall into the 16–60-minute range, longer disruptions were more prevalent at lower-performing hubs. In contrast, top-performing airports like Aberdeen and Liverpool had relatively few extended delays, highlighting a more consistent travel experience.

Passengers Take Note

The CAA data is collated from 25 UK airports where ‘delay’ is meant to be the difference between an aircraft’s scheduled arrival or departure time and the actual time it arrives at or departs from the airport gate.

For travellers, the findings are a useful guide to understanding which airports are more likely to provide a smooth, timely experience. Choosing routes through more reliable airports could reduce the likelihood of missed connections or long wait times. See more like this HERE.
