Lufthansa Technik has further strengthened its long-term partnership with Air Canada. The partnership has extended multiple exclusive agreements for technical aircraft services. The agreements cover engine maintenance services for CFM56-5B engines and component support for Boeing 777 and 737 MAX fleets of Air Canada.

CFM56-5B service

The CFM56-5B is the engine that powers Air Canada’s Airbus A320ceo fleet of aircraft. Lufthansa Technik maintenance services will support and help to ensure that the CFM56-5B engines remain reliable and efficient. The company is known for its maintenance, repairs, and overhauls (MRO) services, and this service is intended to support optimal performance for Air Canada’s CFM56-5B engines. The servicing of these engines will continue until 2032 with approximately 80 maintenance checks planned during the duration.

Further extensions

Following this is the Total Component Support contract for 25 Boeing 777 aircraft that has been extended until 2032. This secures essential components that will be readily available to maximise operational efficiency. Air Canada’s Boeing 737 MAX fleet contract has also been extended until 2033. This ensures access to critical aircraft spare parts and support services to maintain the fleet’s high reliability and performance.

Joshua Vanderveen, vice president of maintenance at Air Canada, said they were pleased to have made these important maintenance agreements and partnership with Lufthansa Technik. Vanderveen said that the customers value reliability and safety above all else, which is why they keep their interests in the engine and component maintenance sector, ensuring they continue to deliver on customers’ priorities.

Georgios Ouzounidis, vice president of corporate sales for the Americas at Lufthansa Technik, added that the company was honoured to have further strengthened the relationship with Air Canada. Ouzounidis said that the contract extensions reflected a deep trust and collaboration between the companies. He also said it underscores the mutual commitment to excellence and looks forward to many more years of supporting Air Canada’s fleet with Lufthansa Technik’s proven maintenance, repair, and overhaul services.
