Following ITA Airway’s inclusion into the Lufthansa Group, the group now announces an expanded codeshare programme with the airline as the next step in the integration. The group hope to bring a seamless travelling experience as the merger and integration process proceeds.
Next-step Integration: Expanded Codeshare for Long-haul flights
The Group announces today an extended codeshare programme with ITA Airways on long-haul flights, starting 1 July 2025. This is a significant step after the group merged the Italian flagship carrier into their operations, and started codesharing in February 2025.
Dieter Vranckx, Lufthansa Group’s Chief Commercial Officer, speaks highly of this progression in the integration process, and sees immense development opportunities and elevation of the travelling experience:
“We are delighted to reach the next milestone in the integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group. By expanding our codeshare flights – now also for long-haul connections – we are offering our airlines’ guests a seamless [travelling] experience more than ever before. They benefit from an expanded and perfectly coordinated route network across all our airlines and hubs – and only need one booking and one check-in. In addition, customers can earn and redeem miles and points in their respective frequent flyer programs as usual. This makes travelling even easier, more comfortable, and more attractive for our customers.”
With this enhanced codeshare programme, passengers will now be able to combine flights from Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines with long-haul flights from ITA Airways in one single booking.

As Italy’s national airline, the airline has seen significant development since merging into the Lufthansa Group. The airline’s integration into the Star Alliance also boosts its visibility and connectivity to different regions whilst sharing mileage and loyalty programmes.
