Air Canada has been announced as the official launch customer for the brand new Airbus Airspace cabin, as the A220 aircraft receives increased storage space and more.

Airbus A220 Receives the Airspace Upgrade

Airbus’ group of A220 aircraft are the next to receive the Airspace cabin, as the launch is set to begin in 2026 with Canadian airline Air Canada.

The A220 cabin, known for its wide aisle and seats as well as large windows, will experience the full Airspace treatment with its upgrade. The airspace suite prioritises roominess, comfort and increased storage.

Perhaps the highlight of the Airspace cabin coming soon to the Airbus A220, is the addition of XL storage bins, providing a 20% increase in storage volume. Passengers and crew will also likely experience a faster turnaround in storing luggage, due to these bins being 10% lighter. A  bag capacity increase of 15% enables these aircraft to carry up to 19 extra passenger bags, with the four-frame design allowing for the storage of longer and heavier items than before.

In addition to luggage handling and storage being made easier, cabin ambience is created by Airspace lighting features which include LED light strips underneath the bins.

Air Canada, the official launch customer, will be showcasing the new Airspace cabin from 2026. John Moody, Managing Director of Onboard Product at Air Canada celebrated:

“The A220 has already become a favourite among our customers, and we’re thrilled to be the launch customer for the next cabin evolution of this Canadian-designed and assembled aircraft. At Air Canada, we’re always looking for opportunities to evolve our products and make travel more comfortable and convenient. The introduction of larger overhead bins on future A220s means more space for your belongings, quicker boarding, and an even better experience on board.”
