Ethiopian Airlines has announced a strategic partnership that promises to redefine air travel between the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, with the new direct daily flights scheduled to begin in late 2025.
Collaboration between Ethiopian and Etihad Airlines Boosts Travel Options
The joint venture features a codeshare agreement, which enhances flexibility for passengers travelling on both airlines’ networks. Travellers can now book single-ticket routes that combine Ethiopian Airlines’ reach into the Middle East and Asia. This simplifies the process of connecting through Addis Ababa and Abu Dhabi.
The CEO of Ethiopian Airlines described the significance of the deal as “a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance connectivity and provide exceptional service.”
With the increase in air traffic between these regions, the partnership enhances convenience while reinforcing economic connections, as Abu Dhabi’s tourist attractions and Ethiopia’s lively investments are set to attract more tourists.
Linking Africa and Asia via Abu Dhabi
The recently introduced flights represent a big step forward for Ethiopian and Etihad Airways, both airlines with strong growth goals. Ethiopian Airlines, the continent’s largest airline, will use its modern fleet, which includes Boeing 777s and Airbus A350-100s, on the Addis Ababa to Abu Dhabi route, expanding its footprint in the UAE across existing services to Sharjah and Dubai. Furthermore, Etihad Airways’ daily flights to Addis Ababa are its fifteenth new route in 2025. This highlights Abu Dhabi’s status as a worldwide aviation centre.
“This partnership connects our expanding networks, offering seamless access to a growing list of destinations,” said Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways.
This strategic partnership enhances the presence of both Airlines’ in an expanding market and promotes greater economic and cultural interactions.
He also hinted at the potential for future cooperation in frequent flyer programmes and cargo operations.
