All are safe from Air Busan plane fire
On 28 January 2025 South Korea local time 22:26 (13:26 GMT), an Airbus A321 operated by Air Busan caught fire at Busan Gimhae International Airport. The tail section of the aircraft caught fire, and the reason is still under investigation.
The aircraft was scheduled as flight BX391 from Busan to Hong Kong. The flight was cancelled after the incident.
All 169 passengers onboard and 7 crew members safely evacuated. 4 were slightly injured during their escape.
The emergency affected two other flights from Busan to Taiwan and the Philippines scheduled to depart around the time when the fire broke out.
Hong Kong authorities said that they have not received any help messages from Hong Kong travellers regarding the accident.
The airline and government authorities are yet to provide updates on the situation; Airbus said that they have contacted Air Busan regarding the incident.
Consecutive accidents spark aviation safety concerns
This Air Busan plane fire accident is the second in less than a month in South Korea. The fatal accident at Jeju Muan Airport took 179 lives last month during a plane crash. These consecutive incidents sparked concerns regarding aviation safety in the region.
The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has set up a group to follow up on the investigation.
