SAS will now offer free, next-generation high-speed Wi-Fi on board all its aircraft. In partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink, SAS will enable seamless, low-latency passengers’ internet connectivity at no extra cost for all classes of travel. Implementation is expected to roll out in phases from the end of 2025, with EuroBonus members gaining access to this premium experience ahead of others.
Reliable Connectivity at 35,000 Feet
Starlink is an unbroken internet world service provided by the first and largest low Earth orbit satellite constellation in the world. Other satellite services cannot offer steady connectivity over vast geographies, including the North Pole, the Atlantic Ocean, and the North Sea.
In the statement to Travel Radar, Paul Verhagen, chief commercial officer at SAS, shared :
“This new technology lets us connect our passengers to the world like never before. We are removing frustrating interruptions and bringing a new era of reliable, high-speed connectivity on board. Whether it’s over the Atlantic or the North Sea, our passengers can rely on a seamless connection.”
Passengers will have Wi-Fi availability from gate to gate, meaning they will not have to wait until after takeoff to get online. The passengers’ internet will remain active throughout the flight.
Game-Changing Technology for Travellers
Jason Fritch, SpaceX Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales, emphasized the groundbreaking nature of this partnership to Travel Radar :
“We’re proud to provide SAS with a connectivity solution that rivals—if not surpasses—the experience passengers have at home. Starlink’s advanced satellite technology enables high-speed internet even in historically difficult areas like the North Pole and the Atlantic.”
At the same time Verhagen echoed this sentiment, adding to Travel Radar :
“Gate-to-gate connectivity is more than just an improvement—it’s a breakthrough in convenience and reliability. This advancement gives our customers the freedom to work seamlessly, stay connected, and enjoy uninterrupted entertainment throughout their flight.”
Sustainability and Smart Design with SAS High-Speed Wi-Fi
The installation of SpaceX’s Starlink aeroterminals on SAS aircraft provides a reduced profile to lower aerodynamic drag, decrease fuel consumption, and complement its broader sustainability strategies. This efficiency enables SAS to be an active driver of positive change toward more sustainable air travel.
Seamless Multi-Device Compatibility
SAS’s new inflight Wi-Fi service will support multiple devices simultaneously, allowing passengers to stay productive or entertained across smartphones, tablets, and laptops without compromise. For business or leisure, travellers will experience high-speed internet connectivity like never before.
This industry-leading innovation not only reinforces SAS’s reputation for excellence but also sets a new standard in in-flight connectivity for passengers. The adoption of Starlink technology by the airline marks a milestone for the future of aviation, shaping flying experiences for millions around the world.
